Mrs Geall's
Aluminium Windows & Solid Roof Extension
A 21st Century update for a near 100-year-old house
The old lead windows have gone, replaced with the very latest aluminium windows to expel draughts and make the property quieter.
Mrs Geall’s beautiful home was the work of an Architect, who built it in 1930. It still possesses its original character, but had some present-day flaws, including the windows. They were leaded, which made them a nightmare to clean, and they also leaked. She had wanted them replaced for several years, but as they were mullioned, she was unsure if this would be possible.
When briefing us, Mrs Geall pointed out her preference for replacement windows that would maximise light transference, and our retort was to recommend aluminium windows. They are super-slim, so glass fills almost the whole window profile. Aluminium is also a weather-resistant material, which would do away with her previous window maintenance costs.
New windows weren’t all that she wanted. Mrs Geall also put us in charge of fitting an extension at the rear of the property, where she planned to pursue her favourite hobby more heavily – water colouring. So that it was well-insulated, a solid tiled roof was added to the extension.
An added benefit of the new windows is that they have minimised noise levels. Mrs Geall also doesn’t have to be extra cautious when opening and closing them, like she had to be with her old leaded windows, when she would worry if they would fall out. Heating the property isn’t as expensive now either. We made a return visit to the house a year after the installation was completed to see if everything was still working well, which it was.
